The Lawrence Hall of Science E-ssential: October 14, 2011

Oct 14, 2011

Welcome to The Hall

We are pleased to introduce two new staff members:

With FOSS

My Name is Giselle Jordan, originally from San Francisco and raised between southern and northern California, single mother of two daughters. I graduated from J. Eugene McAteer High School in San Francisco and attended Contra Costa College in San Pablo. It’s there where I obtained an AA in Sociology and Liberal Arts. Previously I worked with Investment Property Exchange Services under Fidelity National Financial from 2002-2011 as an Accounting Administrator. I’m very pleased to be with UC Berkeley working with DeSondra Ward and the LHS staff. I plan to further my education during my career choice as an AA III; and would be ecstatic to attend a UC School as I’m also working with a UC School. I believe that education is important whether you have job security or not. It sets a good example for the younger women and other single moms that do not believe you can be a career mom and pursue your dreams despite the odds.

With Discovery Corner

Michaela Briane Yee is the new Assistant Manager at the Discovery Corner Store and heads all merchandising and marketing projects. She looks forward to adding to the great merchandise by stocking the shop with new jewelry options and kids clothing.

Michaela is a crafter, foodie and lover of all things museums. Michaela hold dual degrees in Fine Arts and Sociology from UC Santa Cruz and completed a Master’s at San Francisco State University in Museum Studies. After a failed attempt at curating a children’s exhibit due to lack of funding, Michaela focused her attention on researching fundraising trends in the local area. Her thesis focused on Asian American women giving circle models from around the country and how they can be applied to diverse Bay Area groups in fundraising for non-profit organizations.

Michaela lives in Oakland and can tell you the cheapest and tastiest eats in Chinatown. Her guilty pleasures include watching Project Runway and indulging in various flavors of sorbet at Scream. When not at LHS, Michaela moonlights as a bridal makeup artist and can also be found painting, making books, or drinking tea.
