Sticky Situations
Want to make an art project like a mosaic or collage, but don't have any glue? Make some!
Gather whatever you want to glue on - bits of color paper, uncooked noodles, dried beans, sequins, even pennies. You can use a large piece of paper or cardboard, a box, an old plate, or lots of other things for your project surface.
What kind of glue do you think would have the right stickiness? Should it be thick or runny, smooth or lumpy, gooey or a little dry? Choose glue ingredients you want to try from the list below (or any other safe food stuff you have around).
Put a teaspoon of each ingredient you like into a bowl. Mix the ingredients, then add water one teaspoon at a time. Stir until your mixture looks gluey and feels sticky. Test it by gluing a bit of paper or other material to your project surface. Add more water if your glue seems too thick or dry. Add more ingredients if it's too thin or runny.
When you're happy with your glue's consistency, make your mosaic or collage. After the glue is dry, do the pieces still stick on? Did your glue work as well as you thought it would?
