Investigations
The five Investigations units from EQUALS give middle
school teachers and students opportunities to explore mathematics skills and concepts
in familiar contexts that make sense. These 4-8 week integrated units encourage sustained
work that involves students in high-level thinking, creative problem solving, planning
their own approaches, and communicating their own ideas. They work together to explore
problem-based curriculum with more depth than traditional exercises.
Each unit's range of entry levels allows students of varying experience
to be challenged on an individual level and to fully participate in group activities.
The units integrate language, writing, and hands-on work in cooperative settings
and can be used effectively in bilingual or multilingual classrooms. Student pages
